answers.

How often should I clean my floors?

The frequency of floor cleaning depends on factors like foot traffic, pets, and personal preference.

Generally, high-traffic areas like kitchens and entryways should be cleaned daily or weekly, while less frequently used areas like bedrooms can be cleaned less often. Hard surface areas should be kept clear of dirt, pebbles, and debris to protect from scratching. For carpet, the Carpet and Rug Institute recommends frequent sweeping with an appropriate vacuum cleaner.

How do I remove stains?

Modern carpet technology has made today's fibers more stain-resistant than ever. However, because different materials (like nylon, polyester, or wool) require specific care, we always recommend following the exact guidelines provided by your carpet’s manufacturer. Using the wrong cleaner can sometimes void your warranty. You can find specific stain-removal instructions for our primary brands here: Shaw Floors, Dream Weaver, and Mohawk.

How do I clean hardwood floors without damaging them?

To protect your hardwood's finish, avoid excessive water and harsh chemicals. Start by removing dirt and debris with a soft-bristled broom or a vacuum set to the "hard floor" (no beater bar) mode. For a deeper clean, skip the vinegar—which can dull the finish over time—and use a pH-neutral cleaner specifically formulated for hardwood. Always refer to your floor’s manufacturer for a list of approved cleaning products to keep your warranty intact.

How do I maintain the shine on my vinyl floors?

The best way to keep your vinyl looking new is to prevent scratches and grime. Use felt pads on all furniture legs and sweep regularly to remove abrasive dirt. When mopping, stick to pH-neutral cleaners and avoid abrasive scrubbers. Important: Be cautious with aftermarket floor polishes; many are not approved by manufacturers and can permanently damage the floor's wear layer. When in doubt, check your specific manufacturer’s specifications.

Can I use bleach to clean my floors?

We do not recommend using bleach. It is an aggressive oxidizer that can strip the finish, discolor the wood or vinyl, and even weaken the structural integrity of some materials. For a safe and effective clean, always opt for gentle, manufacturer-approved solutions instead of harsh household chemicals.
